As a charitable organization, Hope through Housing’s success would not be possible without the support of our donors, funders, strategic partners and advocates who give voice to issues that impact families and individuals living in poverty. One of Hope through Housing’s biggest champions is Wells Fargo. Since 2007, Wells Fargo has contributed more than $400,000 to Hope through Housing’s afterschool programs located onsite of National CORE affordable housing communities, including a 2016 grant of $50,000.
Jack Olree, Vice President of Community Development for Wells Fargo’s West Region, said Hope through Housing and National CORE form a “comprehensive tandem” in transforming lives and communities. “One of our main focuses is affordable housing,” Olree says. “What we really look for are organizations that help the community succeed. Hope through Housing and National CORE do that.” In California, Wells Fargo makes grants in three primary areas: community development, education and human services. The company’s philanthropic priorities are projects that keep communities strong, diverse and vibrant.
Olree identified Hope through Housing’s afterschool initiatives as an example. Research has shown that children who attend afterschool programs are more likely to succeed academically and in life. With funding, Hope through Housing is able to offer low-income families a no cost option for afterschool time that includes tutoring, homework assistance, reading enrichment, recreation and physical activity, nutrition, violence prevention, and college/career exposure for children and youth in grades K-8. These activities help children build academic readiness, character, and future orientation and outlook towards college and careers.
Wells Fargo’s commitment to our communities goes beyond charitable giving. Jack Olree and his team at Wells Fargo commit their own time and resources to help our families and seniors thrive. This commitment includes volunteering time to teach financial education, collecting toys to be distributed to our children during the holidays and providing hot meals to our seniors. This type of partnership makes it possible for us to make a difference in neighborhoods negatively affected by poverty, crime, isolation and neglect.
Thank you Wells Fargo for your commitment to the communities, families and individuals we serve!
