At our San Marino senior community, joy was delivered in soft leather and self-care.
Women of Hope, Hope’s volunteer group, gathered for a Ladies’ Afternoon Out handing out over 80 purses brimming with hair care products and clips, skincare and perfume – a celebration of dignity and womanhood.
Among the recipients was Dolores, an 85-year-old resident who has called this community home for the past seven years.
“Thank you for remembering us,” she said. “Everyone deserves to feel pretty and taken care of no matter the age.”
Events like this help combat the very real loneliness and isolation so many older adults experience. Social connectedness is vital to improving emotional and mental well-being, lower cortisol levels, reduce anxiety and depression and even helps with physical health.
Through Hope’s Connections to Care program, we connect seniors to nutritious food programs, rental and utility assistance, transportation services and healthcare resources. We provide fitness and engagement opportunities to promote wellness and help residents stay active and involved. Most importantly, we work to restore a sense of connection and community.
“Connections to Care are essential to our residents,” said Alyssa Cotter, Hope through Housing Executive Director. “This program goes beyond meeting basic needs. It helps our seniors feel supported and valued. Everyone deserves to age with dignity and through events like these, we’re able to be their community.”
