Since 2020, affordable housing residents have built more than $209,000 in savings through a Hope through Housing program that teaches strong money management skills – including 43 graduates in the 2026 Money Match cohort.
Money Match provides a one-to-one savings match of up to $1,200 over six months. Participants attend monthly online financial coaching sessions with Chase Bank and receive guidance and regular check-ins from Hope through Housing’s Pathways to Economic Empowerment team.
With Hope through Housing’s one-to-one match, participants have accumulated more than $418,000 in combined savings and matching funds.
“We want participants to build healthy financial habits, create an emergency savings cushion and feel confident managing their finances,” said David Gonzalez Summers, senior manager of career pathways and financial stability.
“Our goal is for them to carry those habits forward after the program ends, building lasting financial security for themselves and their families,” he said.
This year’s 43 participants collectively set aside $44,100, matched by Hope through Housing to generate a combined $88,200. Graduates came from communities across Los Angeles County, Orange County, San Diego, the Inland Empire, Texas and Florida.
Jihan, 37, a mother of four and her family’s sole provider, saved the maximum of $1,200, creating a cushion of $2,400. She is now working toward an emergency fund to help protect her family if she becomes unable to work.
Temeka, 50, committed to saving $100 each month, putting her mother’s advice to “pay yourself” into practice. She finished with $1,200 in savings and matching funds as well as greater confidence in her ability to plan for her family’s future.
“I’m starting to actually believe in myself for once in my life,” Temeka said.
