At the age of 65, Teretha lost her home of 39 years. She found herself grappling with homelessness and rapidly declining physical and mental health conditions.
But a year later, she received a call about availability at National CORE’s affordable housing community, Nestor Senior Village. Since moving into her fully furnished studio apartment, her health has improved, and she is hoping to use this as a steppingstone to a larger more independent life.
Hope through Housing and National CORE, our housing partner, empower formerly homeless individuals and vulnerable populations to rebuild their lives and achieve long-term stability by providing not just a place to live, but support and resources to thrive.
Our 95.3% retention rate reflects our commitment to offering a pathway to stability and, ultimately, a brighter future.
Through the Unlocking Opportunities program, we apply proven models for recovery, resilience and well-being approach vulnerable populations, focusing on the individuals and apply proven models for recovery, resiliency and overall well-being for residents living within permanent supportive housing.
“This is a new beginning for me,” Teretha said. “Nestor Senior Village has given me hope and life can only get better from here.”
Working with partners such as PATH and Mercy Housing, we serve 762 PSH households at 32 National CORE properties, with 587 new households in development at 23 new properties. Residents include formerly homeless individuals, developmentally disabled adults and transitional age youth.
As the need for these services continue to grow, AJ Galka, Hope through Housing’s Assistant Vice President of operations and supportive housing, and her team are ensuring that residents receive the care and support they deserve.
“We meet people where they’re at,” AJ said. “We dive a little deeper so that we can connect residents to their long-term goals. If we can help our residents open the door to opportunities, we can offer hope and, in the process, change their lives forever.” Our work is a continuous effort to provide hope, stability, and opportunities, making a lasting impact on the lives of the vulnerable populations we serve.”
