Welcome to the Hope through Housing Foundation!

More than 100 community members took to the Pacific Electric Trail in Rancho Cucamonga early Thanksgiving morning, joining the seventh annual Studio 30 Turkey Trot Fun Run to support teens served by Hope through Housing.

The event generated over $5,200 in donations, including 121 $35 gift cards that will allow teens living in affordable housing communities – a group often overlooked in seasonal giving efforts – to buy something of their own during the winter holidays.

The event is the brainchild of Cathy Gonzalez, owner of Studio 30, The Kettlebell Fit Club. After participating in similar 5K runs, Gonzalez created a version where every dollar directly benefited those in need.

“It’s just so amazing to see the people who come out and support such a wonderful cause – especially on the holiday,” Gonzalez said. “They’re not just coming out to run. They’re coming out to give.”

The Turkey Trot has grown significantly since its first year, when 11 hardy runners braved a rainy Thanksgiving to complete the 5K.

The $35 gift cards will be packaged in gift bags along with coupons donated by Bruster’s Real Ice Cream, Chick-fil-A and Raising Cane’s, Gonzalez said. Members of the Women of Hope, a volunteer group that supports Hope through Housing, packed the bags on Dec. 3.

“We can’t thank Cathy – and her runners – enough for their commitment and generosity,” Hope through Housing Executive Director Alyssa Cotter said. “Because of them, hundreds of teens will enjoy a brighter holiday season, and know that someone was thinking of them. That’s what it means to provide Hope in every home.”
