Hope through Housing’s after-school program empowers youth in underserved communities, equipping them with tools to break the cycle of poverty and create brighter futures.

During monthly career conversations, children are introduced to diverse career paths – opening their eyes to opportunities they might never have imagined.

Early exposure to career possibilities broadens their horizons, inspiring them to dream big and explore a variety of professional journeys. For youth from low-income families, these discussions are vital, opening doors that can shape their futures.

Children have had the chance to hear directly inspiring professionals including firefighters, Coast Guard officers, nonprofit leaders and bankers.

“I would like to work in a bank and eventually be a manager or create my own well know bank.” Arianna, a San Antonio Vista resident, said after a presentation by a US Bank branch manager.

In 2024, 58% of Hope through Housing after-school attendees saw themselves going to college or attending career training after school.

Celine, a member of Women of Hope –a service group that supports our after-school program — walked children through her 10 years of experience in the medical field. Celine said she was drawn to the career-sharing activity because she would have loved to have had a similar opportunity as a child.

“Similar to my upbringing, sometimes these conversations are not being had at home,” Celine said. “Career Conversations gives kids a rare opportunity to look at a range of new career options.”

Our flagship program, Building Bright Futures, focuses on supporting the whole child, ensuring that youths in underserved communities have the resources and guidance to reach their full potential.
