We are proud to recognize the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles as our Community Partner of the Year, celebrating the faith-based organization’s unwavering commitment to providing affordable housing across a broad swath of California.

Led by Bishop John Harvey Taylor, the diocese has pledged to develop affordable housing at 25% of 133 church properties, spanning much of six counties in Southern California and the Central Coast. The new communities will offer vital shelter and support, including homes for residents who have experienced homelessness.

“Housing is a gospel value,” Bishop Taylor said. “These new communities are a reminder that if we have a clear vision and mission, we can make a difference for our neighbors.”

National CORE is deeply honored to have been chosen by the church to build Santa Angelina senior apartments at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament in Placentia and Orchard View Gardens at St. Joseph’s Episcopal Church in Buena Park, which is nearing completion. A third senior development is underway at St. Ambrose Church in Claremont.

Beyond these developments, the diocese is working with Habitat for Humanity in Anaheim, with Community Development Partners on a 100% permanent supportive housing community in Riverside, plus about a half a dozen more communities awaiting financing. As many as 20 more developments are in exploration.

Building affordable housing on active faith-based campuses comes with unique challenges, but the results are profound. These communities offer not just housing but a deeply integrated support network where residents benefit from the compassion and engagement of the church community.

As we present this award for Community Partner of the Year, National CORE extends its deepest respect and gratitude to the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles for its visionary leadership and dedication to uplifting the most vulnerable among us.
