Just before moving into Metro View with his wife and two daughters, Meiser lost his job. Drawing on his savings, he scraped together enough for his first month’s rent and deposit, but it meant he was unable to keep up with an alarmingly high electricity bill.

“I would manage to pay for one month but wouldn’t have enough to pay for another two after that,” Meiser said. “We were scared that we wouldn’t have electricity one day.  It was a very difficult time.”

But Hope through Housing was on their side.

Services Coordinator Sandra Sigala helped Meiser acquire more than $700 from Hope through Housing’s emergency assistance program.

The funds not only covered the overdue electricity bills but allowed him and his wife to buy their girls, ages 2 and 12, new clothes.

The funds helped bridge a critical gap as the family struggled to find footing after the job loss. Now, once again employed, Meiser says he is keeping on top of the bills.

“It was a great help,” Meiser said. “My daughters were so excited to be picking out clothes and it gave us a chance to get back on track.”
