Lucas, a 10-year-old from an Ontario affordable housing community, was all smiles at the 18th annual Colonies Holiday Miracles on Dec. 13, when he shopped for toys, enjoyed holiday treats, made crafts and visited with Santa.
Lucas was one of 200 children selected to participate in the celebration by Inland Empire nonprofits, including House of Ruth, Upland Unified School District, Hope through Housing, City of Upland Housing Authority, OPARC, Eagles Wings, Pacific Lifeline, Children’s Fund, Children’s Hope, LeRoy Haynes Family Programs, Foothill Family Shelter, the Scheu Family YMCA of Upland and Marsell Wellness Center.
The event is hosted by the Colonies Crossroads Shopping Center, Kohls, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Target, Kohl’s, Albertsons, National CORE and the Hope through Housing Foundation and sponsored by the Colonies Partners.
They are supported by an army of volunteers to provide children with a memorable holiday experience, including a $200 shopping spree, Christmas trees and gift cards for family holiday meals. More than 300 volunteers, including first responders and community members, served as shopping chaperones throughout the day.
This year, the need was especially great as many Inland Empire families face rising costs and limited resources during the holiday season, making the community’s generosity and support all the more meaningful.
