Aliyah, an incoming freshman at Warren High School, carefully selected a brand-new backpack during one of Hope through Housing’s annual back-to school events, which aims to equip children in low-income communities with the tools to thrive.

Coming off financial hardships due to a family emergency, Edith found it difficult to prepare her children for the upcoming school year – something so many parents go through. Deshawndray, a mother of two living at National CORE’s affordable housing community Rancho Verde, expressed similar gratitude at the community’s shoe and backpack drive hosted by Verve Church at Champs Sports at Victoria Gardens.
Studies show that the average household in the United States spends upward of $541 per child on back-to-school supplies.
With generous donors and partners like Target, Walmart, Amazon, SoCal Gas, Costco, Verve Church and many others, Hope through Housing can provide much-needed school supplies to the children that need it the most.
“We believe in what Hope through Housing is doing,” Verve Pastor Chris Endsley said. “We believe that we should support and uplift the community. We are our best when we are doing it together.”
