Welcome to the Hope through Housing Foundation!

From slime-covered hands to bright tie-dyed creations, the children at San Antonio Vista buzzed with energy as they explored hands-on stations at the Montclair STEM Labs Science Fair.

Supported by Strykers’ players and Hope through Housing volunteers, the event also featured butterfly crafts, flying disc design and soccer drills. Each station invited children to think creatively, solve problems and connect with one another.

“The goal is to get kids engaged and challenge how they think,” service coordinator Christopher Floyd said. “It prepares them for real-life readiness. We want them to take what they learn here and carry it into their future.”

Alongside skill building, the event created space for meaningful connection across the community.

“You see them engaging with one another and socializing, and that’s what our world needs,” Christopher shared. “These are the moments where they feel seen and build confidence in a safe environment.”

Throughout the event, children proudly shared their creations and worked together across stations. For volunteer Mauricio “Mo” Capetillo, those small moments are what matter most.

“STEM activities stimulate them in a way screens cannot,” Mo said. “It’s hands-on, and it gets them thinking differently. They learn how to try new things, work together and support each other.”

For Mo, the STEM Labs Science Fair is an example of how Hope through Housing can generate a longer-term impact on the kids it supports.

“I’ve worked with many nonprofits, but this one is action based. You can see the impact firsthand on the lives of youth, seniors and families. It’s real, and it makes a difference.” Mo said.
