Too many people have experienced the quiet panic between choosing between groceries and the electric bill, the weight of living one emergency away from crisis.
At Hope through Housing, we believe no one should have to live with this kind of fear. That’s why our Pathways to Economic Empowerment initiative offers a lifeline when it’s needed most.
With the support of our Pathways team, residents gain access to critical services – emergency rental assistance, financial coaching and literacy, job development support and our Money Match savings program.
Many families have never been taught how to manage money. They have had to navigate adulthood in survival mode, reacting to crisis after crisis with no margin for error.
“Emergency rental assistance helps families stay securely housed during times of crisis, reducing stress and instability,” Economic Mobility Manager David Gonzalez Summers said. “Financial coaching and literacy provide residents with the knowledge and tools to make informed decisions, often filling a gap for those who have never had access to this type of education. Our Money Match Savings Program encourages consistent saving by rewarding participants with matching funds, helping them build both a safety net and confidence in their financial futures.”
So far in 2025, we’ve provided $38,513.60 in financial assistance to 33 families across California and Texas. That includes 10 families in San Bernardino County, five in Los Angeles County, 13 in San Diego County and five in Texas.
Each of these households faced real threats to their stability – late rent, job loss, mounting debt. And each is now on a new path forward, supported by the tools and knowledge they need to succeed.
For many, that shift begins with the Money Match program.
This initiative pairs consistent financial coaching with a 1:1 savings match – up to $1,200 over six months. It’s a game-changer for residents who’ve never had a cushion, never believed savings were even possible.
“Before I started, I was living paycheck to paycheck and spending every little bit that I had. Now, I set some money aside and I feel better knowing that I’m closer to my target,” Legacy Square resident Fernando said.
Hope through Housing is now expanding our programs across Texas and Florida, reaching residents in 11 additional communities with these lifechanging services.
Because financial empowerment shouldn’t depend on your ZIP code.
We don’t hand out hope. We help people build it – with every dollar saved, every emergency avoided, every family that breathes easier.
