Eric Dickerson Golf Tournament Supports Learning Center
Hope through Housing’s Eric Dickerson Learning Center is a first-of-its-kind enrichment program for children and teens. As a result of strong community support, the program is expanding opportunities, building leadership skills and sparking curiosity.
The center reflects the vision of Eric Dickerson and Hope through Housing/National CORE founder Jeff Burum. It launched in April 2025 at The Residences of Diamond Hill, a National CORE workforce housing community in Fort Worth. Support from the Eric Dickerson All-Star Invitational helped raise $375,000 to strengthen and expand the program.
“The Eric Dickerson Learning Center is redefining the kinds of support available to children in low-income communities,” said Alyssa Cotter, executive director of the Hope through Housing Foundation. “This is a unique, free program unlike anything ever seen in affordable housing and rare to find in any community.”
What Makes the Eric Dickerson Learning Center Unique
The program has been described as “after-school 2.0” because it builds on the literacy development, homework help and college mentoring offered through Hope through Housing’s after-school programs.
For example, children conduct science experiments in partnership with the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History. They explore literature with the Fort Worth Public Library and take part in activities that build leadership skills and encourage creativity. A speaker series has featured leaders such as former Dallas Cowboy Reggie Barnes.
How Community Support Is Expanding Opportunities
In its second year, the program will strengthen and expand its partnerships and services. This growth is supported by gifts generated at the fourth annual Eric Dickerson All-Star Invitational, held in April in Dallas.
The golf tournament brought together Hall of Fame athletes and supporters committed to creating opportunities for children and families. The program will continue expanding access to mentorship, learning experiences and resources for residents at Diamond Hill.
“We are deeply indebted to our supporters, who really understand the power of the Eric Dickerson Learning Center to unlock opportunities for children,” Cotter said. “Many of the athletes and guests know what it’s like to grow up without resources and how a helping hand can change everything.”
