Building Bright Futures: The Possibilities are Endless!
Eighteen-year-old Sebastian Gutierrez moved to Arbor Villas in Yorba Linda when he was three years old. At the time, his mom was desperately looking for a safe and affordable place to raise her son. Arbor Villas offered that and so much more. It became a nurturing environment where Sebastian thrived.
He started attending the onsite after-school program in third grade. It provided Sebastian with a strong support system and put him on the path to future success. Driven to succeed at an early age, he excelled in school and made the most of the opportunities presented to him.
In high school, he played the clarinet, euphonium, and trombone in the marching and concert bands. He competed in the Academic Decathlon and track and field teams. For his outstanding academic performance, he received Distinguished Scholar and Collegiate Scholar designations, as well as being recognized as a National Hispanic Merit Scholar and a QuestBridge College Prep Scholar.
We are so proud of Sebastian! He is currently attending the University of Notre Dame under a full scholarship, pursuing a degree in chemical engineering. Sebastian represents what is possible when you give hope to children.
Hope through Housing Launches the Building Bright Futures Fund!
“The goal of Building Bright Futures is to instill the belief in children that great things are possible in their lives, sparking their imagination and equipping them to reach success despite any personal barriers,” commented Greg Bradbard, President of Hope through Housing.
Hope through Housing provides 30 onsite after-school programs within National CORE communities, providing a safe, nurturing after-school environment, during the critical after school hours. Children receive a healthy snack and participate in activities that promote physical fitness, support violence prevention and character building, and offer exposure to college and career information.
To support children and teens in obtaining future success, both in school and beyond, Hope through Housing has focused on increasing college and career readiness through activities during after-school, school success celebrations, career conversations, college-prep workshops, and scholarship support.
2019 has been a tremendous year here at Hope through Housing! Every day we strive to have a meaningful impact on the children and teens who need our help. We hope that through our guidance and support we have set them on the path to future success in school and beyond, ending the cycle of generational poverty.
Hope through Housing’s Building Bright Futures Fund supports:
- After-School Programs – a safe haven during the critical after school hours, providing mentorship, a healthy snack, homework help, and activities that support academic enrichment, violence prevention and character building.
- Teen Initiatives – programs and activities designed to engage teens, offer a safe space, promote open communication, bridge multicultural differences, and enhance leadership development.
- A Scholarship Fund – established to support high school graduates in pursuing their dreams for the future. Hope through Housing will award up to 20 scholarships annually, ranging from $500 to $1000, to be used to offset costs associated with studies leading to a certificate or degree from an institute of higher education.
This holiday season, we are asking you to join other monthly donors who are helping to turn obstacles into opportunities and problems into possibilities for the children and teens who need our help. Your monthly contribution to our Building Bright Futures Fund will help children like Sebastian achieve academic success and so much more…
- $100 per month will support two children for an entire school year.
- $50 per month will support one child for half of the school year.
- $25 per month will support one child for three months of the school year.
Help us raise $20,000 in 202 through monthly donations! Become a monthly donor.

The Ontario Fury Soccer Season is Here!
For the third consecutive year, Hope through Housing is proud to partner with the Ontario Fury, a professional indoor soccer team, to raise awareness and dollars to help local children and families in need. At each home game, money raised for the third quarter “Ball Toss” benefits Hope through Housing’s Building Bright Futures Fund. Volunteers are needed to help sell mini soccer balls to fans. With the purchase of a mini soccer ball, fans have the opportunity to compete for their chance to win an array of prizes. All volunteers receive a co-branded Hope through Housing/Ontario Fury Street Team t-shirt and tickets to a game of their choice.
