Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. – Hope through Housing will pilot a youth fitness program for residents of two National CORE affordable housing communities in Rancho Cucamonga and one community in Montclair thanks to a $10,000 grant from the LA84 Foundation.

The fitness program will be offered as part of the Building Bright Futures initiative, Hope through Housing’s primary youth development platform. As part of the initiative, the organization offers free daily after-school programs at 30 community centers for students in elementary and middle school. Students receive homework help, a nutritious snack, fitness and health programs, positive role modeling and enrichment activities that include STEM, the arts, character development and college/career readiness in a safe, inclusive environment.

“Helping kids to develop healthy habits for a lifetime is so important,” Hope through Housing President Greg Bradbard said. “With LA84’s support, we look forward to expanding our onsite fitness programs to reach more kids in 2024.”

The pilot program will be conducted at Villaggio on Route 66 and Sunset Heights in Rancho Cucamonga and at San Antonio Vista in Montclair. More than 350 families reside at the three properties.

Hope through Housing’s mission is to help break the cycle of generational poverty. Utilizing onsite community centers and long-standing relationships with residents living within National CORE affordable apartment communities, it can deliver resources and support right where residents live. Hope through Housing offers services to more than 8,000 households and 24,000 residents.

Hope through Housing has three additional areas of focus.

The Connections to Care program supports senior residents with mental and physical health programs, social connectedness and financial aid, as well as a host of services that include transit support, disaster preparedness and aid in obtaining benefits.

The Pathways to Economic Empowerment program supports family stabilization leading to economic mobility through a mix of secure, affordable apartment homes and onsite services/supports that empower adults to overcome barriers to employment and improve their financial situation.

In partnership with its housing partner, National CORE, the foundation’s Unlocking Opportunities program also provides a stable living environment for individuals and families at risk of homelessness.
